My Story
ruthie was born out of a love for connection + community.
The eponymous name is a representation of who I am and where I came from. My Oma, affectionately referred to as “Ruthie” by my Opa, has always provided a gathering space for people. All are welcome at her table. Our family dinners often have someone who has nowhere else to go. She absolutely taught me the importance of gathering and creating a space where everyone feels at home.
Hi, I’m Sara. I was named after my Oma (Ruth is my middle name), and my dad has always called me “Little Ruthie”. I spent the majority of my twenties working in events and shoots. First, as a runway show producer for a company called Eco Fashion Week where I would scout and book the brands, cast the models, assist in making their show come to life, then run the backstage. At the same time, I was freelance styling and modelling on various shoots, sets, and shows around the city. From there, I was hired by one of our runway brands, and became the Marketing + Sustainability Manager for a made-to-order bridal design company, where I planned everything from (more) runways shows and other fun launch parties, like influencer long tables or artistic showcases, to assisting my team on photoshoots. We moved back to the Okanagan when I got a job with a global sustainable brand headquartered in Kelowna. Here I threw every event from virtual speaker series to local community activations, casted and styled models for shoots— same stuff, different space! Always in support of brands doing good.
As a chaotic creative meets Type A personality, working on events and shoots has always felt like second nature to me. I have a knack for turning mood boards into action plans. I love creating something different, something memorable and, most importantly, something that’s all yours. A moment captured in time. What a beautiful way to celebrate life.
